What are Tongue-Ties and Lip-Ties?

A physical condition that limits the use of the tongue is called a tongue-tie. This restriction often causes a range of issues and affects around 20% of the population. A lip-tie, is a condition where the upper lip is restricted and cannot move normally.

It is a multifaceted condition that many people don’t know they have. It can inhibit the growth of the upper jaw and lead to a smaller airway and also lead to exaggerated spinal curvatures. If it is not treated, it can effect speech, feeding, airway, and sleep apnea.

As a result, a multidisciplinary approach is vital to the success of treatment.

DOES MY INSURANCE COVER THIS PROCEDURE?

First, it's important to note that not all insurance plans cover tongue tie procedures. We've found that dental insurance doesn't cover it because it is considered a conginital medical condition. Sometimes, medical insurance will help pay for the exam or procedure. After your visit we will provide you with a health insurance claim form that you can request payment from your health insurance company. This does not guarantee payment. Filing for insurance reimbursement is the responsibility of the patient, and we are unable to assist any further with the claims process. We are out of network with all dental and medical plans. Patients will pay out of pocket before surgery. We will alert you to any charges before they occur. If you have questions about the current investment for this procedure, please contact us.

HOW WILL I PAY FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

We accept cash, credit card, or Care Credit. Payment in full is due at the time of service. The cost of the procedure includes a 2 week follow up visit with Dr. Blalock. We charge a fee to reserve your spot on the schedule. This deposit is non-refundable if the appointment is canceled with less than 24 hours notice or if the patient does not show up for the appointment.
